Jul 03, 2018 · 1. You have to run the test at various moisture contents. Plot the number of hits vs. moisture content and then extrapolate to 25 hits to find the moisture content at the liquid limit. The ASTM D4318 standard should be followed. However, there is always some operatordependence and an alternative is the cone penetration test described in BS ...
The Atterberg limits are a basic measure of the nature of a finegrained soil. Depending on the water content of the soil, it may appear in four states: solid, semisolid, plastic and liquid. In each state the consistency and behavior of a soil is different and thus so are its engineering properties.
Atterberg limit tests were preformed on diesel oil contaminated soil and crude oil contaminated soil. The results show that Atterberg limits reduced with increasing of diesel oil content. When crude oil content changed from 0 to 8%, it has little effect on Atterberg limits. However, it rose from 8% to 16%, plastic limit slightly decreased, but liquid limit increased remarkably.

These limits are first proposed by Swedish Scientist Atterberg in 1911 and are called as Atterberg limits. Atterberg limits and related indices are very useful for soil identifiion and classifiion. Atterberg limits are of three types: (i) Liquid limit (ii) Plastic limit (iii) Shrinkage limit (i) Liquid Limit:
Aug 04, 2016 · The Atterberg limit tests, commonly known as liquid and plastic limit of soils, are named for Albert Mauritz Atterberg, a Swedish chemist and agricultural scientist. Atterberg was born in 1846. In 1872, he earned his in chemistry from Uppsala University in Sweden. Atterberg taught analytical chemistry at Uppsala for several years before ...
This study attempted to investigate the effect of gravel dust and limestone dust on geotechnical properties of clayey soil. Testing program including Atterberg limits, compaction, CBR and free swell tests, were performed on clay with the dust at varying amounts (10, 20, 30 and 40%).
Atterberg Limit Tests Apparatus Atterberg Limits testing is a group of tests used to define the properties of cohesive soils at different moisture contents . Gilson carries all the equipment needed to perform liquid limit, plastic limit, and shrinkage limit tests in accordance with ASTM D4318 and ASTM D4943 standards, and other associated test methods.

May 25, 2020 · The standard liquid limit device is used to check the minimum water content in which a part of soil is cut into groove of standard dimensions, and will flow together for a distance of 12 mm which will be impacted for 25 blows in the device. All the soils at liquid limit passes same negligible shear strength of KN/m 2. Type of soil.
The gravel is subdivided as Coarse Gravel (80 mm to 20 mm) and Fine Gravel (20 mm to ). ... Clay with low plasticity, ML: Silt with low plasticity) if the liquid limit of the soil is less than 50% and if the liquid limit of the soil is greater than 50% the soil has high plasticity (CH: Clay with high plasticity, MH: Silt .

ATTERBERG LIMITS. Soils, especially finegrained clay and silt soils, are measured as wet/moist/dry or basically by its consistency. Soil consistency is described as the resistance of soil to deformation and rupture. Physical properties of soil, such as color, texture, structure, and porosity are considerably influenced by the amount of water present in them.
Apr 19, 2018 · This report summarizes the results obtained from Atterberg Limits test. We measured the liquid limit to be % and averaged our Plastic Limit from two tests to be %. We also calculated the Plasticity Index, which is the difference between the Liquid Limit and the Plastic Limit.
The result of Atterberg Limit tests for soil samples are give n in Table 3 below. Atterberg's limits consist of plastic limit test, liquid limit test, soil plasticity index and linear shrinkage. Soil conditions can be divided into four phases, namely solid, semisolid, plastic and liquid (Head, 2008).

Atterberg Limits Liquid Limit (LL) is defined as the moisture content at. which soil begins to behave as a liquid material and begins to flow (Liquid limit of a finegrained soil gives the moisture content at which the shear strength of the soil is approximately /m2) Plastic Limit (PL) is .
